AEV JK250 and Axles
Hey guys,
I'm not new to jeeps but kind of a newbie question here. I ordered a Sahara with an AEV package (don't flame me). I debated a long time between Sahara and Rubi and ultimately this jeep will have far more highway miles than offroad so I went with Sahara. I didn't see this as a problem bc I'd still have 3.73 axle ratio with 35 inch tires. So I ordered the jeep and neither the dealership nor AEV said I'd have a problem when I ordered it. The jeep was built and sent to AEV. Now AEV is telling me I am required to upgrade to 4.10. Is 4.10 really required for 35 inch wheels?? The thing that is most upsetting is AEV didn't tell me this when I ordered the jeep. If this is true, the cost difference between Sahara and Rubi is almost wiped out. Do I really need 4.10 with 35s???

If you ordered the AEV kit because you wanted a great ride on road with little to no hassle, then you want the 4.10's. Sure you can run 35's on the 3.73, but the 4.10s will ride better. Kind of a scumbag move on the dealer and AEV's move to tell you 3.73s would be fine.

Honestly, if you're going to do gears, I'd look at 4.56 with 35s. The difference between 3.73 and 4.10 isn't really worth the change.
As for AEV requiring the upgrade, that makes no sense. I could see if you were going to 37s.
That all said, I'll build your jeep the same and do it for half the cost and let you keep your 3.73s.
All they do is bolt stuff on that they mark way up and charge you out the butt for labor. To be clear, no issue with you wanting AEV, but why spend so much money for something you can do yourself?

If it's an actual AEV built rig in Michigan they probably require it. probably be cheaper to have them put 33's on and then just switch the tires instead of the gears. The aev rigs are pretty neat tho you pay for them. You get the cool dash cluster and inner painted hard top.

I'm currently running 35's with 3.73's in a 2015 rubicon with an auto tranny. I did the AEV pro cal computer adjustment and it honestly feels pretty good to me. I'm not currently considering regearing. If I start hauling a trailer I'd then consider the regear.

I don't understand why or how AEV would "require" 4.10 gearing when they are installing A SUSPENSION!! Has nothing to do with gears!
Tell them to pound salt, build the rig and u make your own decisions about regear later!

I am guessing if you want a serial numbered AEV rig built in the AEV assembly plant you probably have to do what they want or they simply will not build it. I think 95% of people would agree too much money for what you get but AEV Michigan built rigs do have an attraction to many and hold a high resale value. go to the AEV forum and check used prices out you will fall over. An aev built rig is not just adding a lift kit out of a shop.
