The AEV hood is steel just like the factory and from what I seen while installing it, has all of the same supports and webbings, etc. Where I drilled for my footman loop is the exact same spot as on the factory hood and when properly measured and drilled you pierce through the hood itself and through the support underneath. The only difference between the factory hood and mine is that the hole on the factory hood where each pin on the end of the footman loop goes through has a recessed larger hole cut out of the first layer (the hood itself) to allow for the footman loop to sit flush with the hood when bolted down from underneath. Because I didn't want to drill a bigger hole than I had to, I went to Lowe's and bought two 1 in black rubber washers and installed those underneath the footman loop, then bolted everything down. It's very solid, looks great and not to mention the rubber washers protect the paint. As for the bumpers for the windshield, I also put those right where they come from the factory and in this position they are not functional unless I was to place a small towel or something under the windshield or else it would ride on the raised part of the hood. I most likely will never lower my windshield. Like I said though, two small wash cloths folded up on top of each bumper and the windshield will rest perfectly and not touch the raised hood. I bought a flexible rubber tape measure that's like 18 inches long from a craft store. This was so nice, as I didn't want to scratch the paint, and also used masking tape while drilling the hood, etc.
