Default Advice

I spoke with a guy from a well established off road garage in the area about putting gussets on. He said sleeves should also be part and that the 30 im running still wont hold up to heavy abuse? (don't know if I would jump or abuse to that level but) so im wondering if I should look for a 44 to replace rather than spend the upgrades in parts and labor

1) gears ( im running 37's)
2) sleeves
3) gussets
4) trusses?
5) axles
6) ect?

anyone offer good news?

Depending on the wheeling..... then again, you're looking at big tires.

Save your cash and find a 44.

The D30 has a small pinion shaft and gear which is fairly weak. Fortunately for the JK it is a high pinion housing which is naturally stronger than the earlier D30. Someone had put together a list showing the difference between building up a D30 and just installing a PR44. The pricing (at full retail) was very close. Slightly more expensive for the PR44 but well worth it. So if you are planning on doing everything above as well as locking it you might want to just consider doing the PR44 as it is much stronger in many different aspects.

PM us if you would like to discuss in more details.

I dumped a bunch of money into my 30 only to replace it 2 years later. Depends on the tires your running and what your wheeling. With 37's your better off upgrading(not that it's definitely gonna blow up) but we always wanna go bigger so better to plan ahead. Sent from my iPhone using JK-Forum

Better question is what does a junkyard 60 go for compared to the PR option.

Just a heads up I've got everything you need to build a D44 front, minus inner axle shafts, and if you want something different than 4.10 gears those would be extra.

I would build your d30 before buying a stock 44. Just my 2 cents. Same c's, same tubes as your d30

What year is yours? If it's a 2012+ you won't have to worry about needed more than 5.13 for gears so that gets rid of the small ring and pinion theory. Unless you plan to really beat on it, spend $200 to truss and gusset your d30 and drive it.

X2. The smaller D30 ring and pinion is much less of an issue on the new motor since you only need 4.56 on 37". I would recommend some chromoly shafts on 35" or 37" just to be safe. Depends on if it's your dd or not.

It's a 2010, can you elaborate on the gear thing? it seems like sleeves are the most costly idea the local shop had mentioned? what would you to (BUILD) the stock 30?
