Default 5.75" back spacing enough for 285/70r17 tires

Looking at a used set of wheels from a grand to put 285/70r17 Duratracs on and wondered if a 17x9 with 5.75" back spacing would still rub?

Thanks!

I would think yes. The rule of thumb I've used is no more than 4.5"bs. Not a for sure answer, but 5.75"bs is a lot.

This...

Thinking out loud here -- Figure that the backspace on the new wheels are .5" less than stock (a good thing) but the tires are going to be about that much wider (on the backside) than stock. I think you're looking at a near wash and given the extra height, I think it'll rub at full lock. Wheel spacers will fix the situation.

I'm gona say your fine...my 295/70/17 on stock -6.5 BS barely rubbed, I heard 285 is fine on stock, you have 3/4" to play. Do you have a lift? Is your axle centered? I used spacers and love them

After writing some numbers down on this napkin here... and just wanting to think this through with you guys:

The backside width is going to be shortened by .5" due to the new wheel choice, there shouldn't be much width change on the tire depending on inflation. Height-wise, he's seeing 1.2" additional inches (assuming the original tires are 255's)... which should be fine on the stock suspension regardless of Wrangler model line.

I'm effectively correcting my prior post.

I am lifted with a 2.5" RK Max travel and currently on 35s just going to a smaller/less aggressive tire and came across some used after market wheels off a Grand Cherokee. If I have to get spacers I might as well get different wheels as it negates much of the cost savings of the used wheel.

I think I'll pass on the used wheels - thanks for your input!

I think you made the right choice. The problem you would run into is clearance with your rear swaybar links. I assure you have longer links then stock due to your lift. I am running 5.4" backspacing and only have about .25" of clearance to the swaybar bolt at full flex. This is with the swaybar link mounted to the inside!
