5.13 Gears, Problems...or All Good?
#12
I haven't had mine long enough to really know if they will be good or not. I had some noise that is now fixed, but no real problems. The 5.13s make the jeep shoot around town on 35s without problem. I think 37s would have been too much for the 5.13s IMO even though 37s would bring it back to factory spec. It should have had a lower ratio from the factory.

With 35 inch tires you can cruise all day at 80 mph no problem (as long as the wind is not against you). The rpm's are around 2900. I drive around 75 mph most of the time and occasionally up to 95, and it drives fine.

5.13's + 35 = Good Enough. The pinion gear is getting pretty small at 5.13. 5.38 would seem to be pushing the envelope, but I'm not a gear expert. Let's see how many problems there are with the 5.13 setup - or if you have the $$$, go for the 5.38's and see what breaks.

5.38's are pretty awesome as long as you don't use your JK as a daily driver. Common sense dictates that the faster everything inside your diff spins the faster it wears out components inside the diff. 5.38's with 37-40 whatevers would be pretty BA but expect to be swapping out axle shafts because they'll act as a fuse in your driveline. 5.13's seem more practical to me because I drive my JK everyday to and from work. With 5.13's and a 4:1 ratio at the t-case, don't ask me to do the math, but you're looking at pretty awesome crawl ration
