agreed. running 37" nitto trail grapplers on our 12 with an auto and 4.10 gears and feel no need to regear.

It's an 07 rubi. I do a fare share of off roading but what makes it worse is now I am going to be tugging a 2000+ trailer/ base camp.

superior gears with bearings and install stuff plus labor was $1250ish for me.

Correct but you also had a manual, i believe the OP has an automatic. That alone will make a big performance difference.

5.38s in my 6 speed with 37 Toyos and I am happy. I only went to the 5.38s for towing otherwise 5.13s all the way. If they break, they break. You have to pay to play

as i have said, 5.38 is a good ratio and one that most people will never have a problem with. but, it doesn't change the fact that the pinion is really really small and will be a weak point.
