Thank you. How about off road? Is 32" to 35" tires a really big difference or not? It just doesn't seem logical that it could be such a huge improvement. Except for looks. Are my suspicions wrong?

Our recent trip to Colorado averaged fuel economy around 17mpg - 18.5mpg driving up and down hills with speeds upto 55mph - 60mph. You can see how my JK is equipped in my signature. The best fuel economy I got during our trip there was just over 19 mpg on one leg of the trip (computer read 20.xx mpg but when I did the math it was closer to 19.5mpg). This completely threw me off since my average in Oklahoma where it's flatter with a lower altitude is closer to 16mpg with a best case of around 17.5mpg . Not complaining - I'll take what I get (and those fuel economy numbers were all with 85 Octane gas with a 10% Ethanol Blend; the gas I get here in Oklahoma is 87 Octane with a 10% Ethanol Blend).

It all depends on how you "use" it. My JK, in addition to a DD, is a tool to get to the hunting areas that produce better than the ones that anyone can get to. The lowest point under the Jeep was 9" from the tranny skid to the ground. Now it is 14-5/8". Those deep buggy ruts are less of a problem and I've improved my water fording abilities. There is a "cost" and you have to decide if it is worth it to you or not.

BTW, my "32's" were 30-3/8" and the new "35's" are 33-7/8"

I have 3.73's and 305x70x16 TA's at the moment. I seem to consistently get 14.5 mpg in town and about 16 on the freeway( if there is no wind). It seems to me that the main reason for the variance in mpg in stock jeeps is the driving style/speed. I personally drive FAST and rarely do under 75 on the freeway. in town I dont speed but Ill do jackrabbit starts.

I wonder how the OP and others drive that are getting 17+ in town and 19+ freeway

My "overall" average for 42,222 miles before the lift install was right at 17.5 MPG

I'll add a little about my driving style and conditions around here. I'm in Florida. The highest point in the State is something like 345' above sea level. You could say it is flat. The interstate overpasses are about the only "hills".

I run between 70 and 80 on the interstate. I'm not always the first one to leave the red light but I'm not far behind. I work 38 miles from the house. I can take I-95 for most of that run or I can take a couple back roads with a 45 and 55MPH speed limit. I usually take the back roads because it is only 1/2 mile farther and the country scenery is much more to my liking.

I will be buying the superchips Flash Pak soon (lift and tires put a dent in the play money piggy bank ). I'm not sure that is going to help much but it can't hurt and although the Jeep is completely drivable with the 35's and 3.73's with the Auto it could be better and the OD is right on the edge. If I keep my foot out of it when coming to a rise in the road it will do fine but it can also get shift happy in certain instances. In those conditions (head wind or load) I just hit the switch and turn it off.

I'm not exactly sure why the variance from tank to tank. I usually fill up at a membership club near the house. I let the pump shut off itself and do not "top off". I suppose it is the conditions. Do I jump on I-95 for a meeting, do I jump on a dirt road for some fun, am I in a hurry, pulling the jon boat...

I was at 19 overall on flat ground and not exceeding 60 mph. After a 3" lift,34" MTRs, heavy bumpers and 513 gears, the overall is 14.5-15. Each mod lowered the mpg, but the gears was the the biggest drop. The superchip settings don't make any difference in the mileage and only marginal performance improvements. I was getting mid 16s with the 410 gears and should have stayed with them. This is due to my conservative driving. I don't need much power. If I was an expert at setting up gears, I would go back to the 410s for the mpg, but it's not worth paying someone to do it.

Are you calculating these out, or are you using the Jeep computer to tell you your average mpg? I know on my 2010 JK that the mileage computer is way off. It reports about 1.5 mpg higher than I actually get on a tank full if I manually calculate it.

Ouch. 12mpg. I was expecting something like that.
