Default 4.88 disapointment

4.88 or 5.13? Seems to be like Ford vs Chevy.

My question, is there anyone out there who went with 4.88 gearing w/ auto trans 35"that has been disapointed?

From everything I have read, it seems unless your hardcore off roader or live in a mountaineus area or don't do much highway communting 5.13 is the way.

I have 5:13's w/35's and an auto. I think they are perfect. Don't know about 4:88's.

If I had to choose between those gear ratios ( I got 5.38's since I have a D44), I'd get 5.13's. More juice and acceleration but it really depends on where you live, how you drive and how large of a tire you want to go with.

Thank you for your input, are your happy with the accleration? people say its a night and day difference. Does your engine sound like its winding out at 70mph?

I've been in the spot for several months after lift, 35s and much more... I have a 2010 Auto 4 door and have suffered way to long under geared and was on the fence about 4:88s and 5:13s. I had an opportunity to drive both before making my decision and it was a no brainer to go 5:13s - got it back yesterday and all I can say is "WOW" best mod ever.

Do it and really enjoy you JK....

Doing hardcore wheeling or driving up mountains is actually a better reason to go with 5.13's. These are the situations where you need more power. I don't think you will find anyone who is disappointed with 5.13's on an auto. 4.88's work better on 6spd JK's with 35's, but with the auto trans you want to run steeper gearing. 5.13 is the way to go.
