Default 4.56s with 33s on a Manual Transmission?

Hello JK-Forum!!

I'm new here, but not new to Jeeps generally . . . .

Question for you regeared folks out there: Anyone with a manual transmission regeared to 4.56s with 33" tires on a daily driver?

My daily driver for 70 highway miles per day is a 4 door manual transmission with the stock 32" Rubi BFGs and the lowly 3.21 gears. I'm looking to go to 33s and suspect I would prefer to do so along with a regear to 4.10s, which looks about right according to the excellent gear ratio chart found here.

However, the shop I'm speaking with is virtually certain this is impossible with OEM parts (such as using 4.10s meant for a 2007 JK X). Non-OEM 4.10 options are of course rare and twice as expensive. Interestingly, even if it was possible/affordable, the shop says it would still urge going to 4.56 for 33" tires. I have no plans for going to 35s.

So, based on the chart it looks to me like my choices for 33s are either wildly undergeared (stick with the 3.21s) or wildly overgeared (go to 4.56s). The shop says that's not true at all--that 4.56s would be a perfect daily driver with a manual transmission on 33s.

Thoughts? Anyone out there using this set up with their daily driver? Thanks all.

Mike

4.56 gears with 33" tires is what I had on my previous Jeep and I thought it was the ideal gearing for both on and off road.

4.56s would be good but if you plan on going to 35's later go to 4.88s

Manual transmission too?

I ask because I see that you've got a (phenomenal) Hemi currently, though it's an auto transmission . . . .

Default Yup

Yea this is what I am planning. Several people even urged for 4.88's on 33's. I think this would be a bit much. However if you think about it 35" km2s only run around a 33" actual where as I believe the 33's or 285/75r16 or 295/75r16 or 255/85r16 or combinations will run closer to a 33" actual granted they more then likely wont be 33's but closer. I am getting mine done in July and will let you know. I will be running 265/75r16s on them on the way home before I switch to 285/75r16s or 295/75r16s so I'll post some real world numbers and seat of the pants opinons.

Starting to feel warm and fuzzy about this change folks . . . .

I just want to get comfortable with the idea that I won't be running out of gear and reaching for "7th" all the time. Unless I'm looking for significant acceleration, I generally shift around 2500 to 3000 RPMs in around town driving. So having 6th gear cruise at 2800 RPMs on the highway seemed like too much.

But maybe not . . . .

I just changed mine from 3.21 to 4.10 and right now my tire size are 31. I think when i go to 33s it will be perfect. I think 4.56 will be too low for 33s. I am running at 2600 rpm at 70 in 6th gear. I am still trying to get used to the higher rpms.

What gears did you use to do that? Were you able to find reasonable pricing?

Thanks for providing the opposing view.
