As for me, I would like to be able to drive my jeep on the hwys that go through the mountains and not be screaming at 300 rpm below redline trying to maintain 50-60 mph, while still loosing speed.

I was curious about this as well.

I'm running 34's on 4.10's (auto) and for the most part its bearable. Uphill at highway speeds O/D jumps in and out. I've been turning the O/D off and really haven't noticed a difference in my mpg.

Is it harder on the tranny running a constant 2,800 - 3,000 rpm's without O/D or running around 2,000 - 2,400 with the occassional jump to 3,000+ to clear a hill or head wind?

Occasional shifting in and out of OD is ok. The repetitive in and out is what is hard on it. In that scenario leave the OD off.

I think the #'s in the chart just represent tire revolutions per mile in relation to tire size and gear ratio.

thanks to everyone who replied. yeah i have the auto so i think im just gonna throw in the money for gears at the same time. that seems to be the general consensus. i think im gonna go with the km2's and 5.13's.

I have the 4.10's and 35's and dont really mind it unless im on a long hill climb and then it sucks. OD off helps a little but will def go to 5.13's at some point

Default Limited Gear options and problems?

In talking to a local offroad shop about my lift, 35's and desire to get 4.88 or 5.13 gears, the owner told me his gear specialist has recommended I sit tight on doing new gears right now. He claims the available stuff out right now has had some issues. Mostly noise after installing. Anybody expeireinced this or heard this??

Sound wise my 5:13s are no different than stock

35's with 4.10's and after 1 week here's my opinion:

around town, I don't really notice it. It may be a tad slower accelerating but it's not bad and I can deal with it.

I made a 150 mile round trip with an elevation change of maybe 100' total with some small hills and valleys. This is east texas so "hills and valleys" may be a slight exaggeration :p Anyway, cruise worked and I had a sweet spot around 72/73 that seemed to work the best BUT if I hit a bug or a small crosswind etc it immediately kicked out of OD

Bottomline, if your only running around town and never planning on highway driving, or limited highway driving it's bearable.

If your planning on any lenghtey highway driving on lots of elevation changes your going to need to re-gear.

I plan on doing either 4.88's for some more omph or 4.56 for the stock config.
