I have 37" Mickey Thomson Baja all-terrains. They are a great road tire and decent for off road uses. I recommend them 100% for road purposes

Hear are my thoughts! Is it tire weight really?

A 37 km2 weighs 70 lbs according to tire rack. A lot of 35s are in the 80 lbs area. So reading Jp Mag. For every 10 pounds of tire weight equals 100 lbs of weight added to your jeep essential in performance and stopping. So looking at the d30 rotating the 37 it should be perfectly fine with a low weight tire regardless of height of the tire. Does this seem to make sense? So my thinking ita weight not size. Ex. Better to get 37 at 70 lbs versus 35 falken wild peak at 81 lbs. What y'all think?

Oh I have d30 up front with sleeve and gussets. Factory shafts on a 4 inch teraflex lift.

from my Mustang modding days... this is exactly how i always understood it. Heavier the wheel and tire the more unsprung weight there is...making it harder for the vehicle turn the tire/wheel.... hence why "light-weight" once piece alloys are so expensive and popular for mustangs and cars alike.... not to mention the harder it is for the vehicle to stop as well<<< this is in theory.

But size does also make a difference... but weight matters more.

From what I have gathered so far incase anyone cares... here are tire weights for their respective size:

Toyo M/T - 35x12.5x17 - 83 pounds
Dick Cepek Mud Country - 35x12.5x17 - 69 pounds
BF Goodrich KM2 - 35x12.5x17 - 68 pounds
Cooper STT - 35x12.5x17 - 68 pounds
Goodyear MT/R Kevlar - 35x12.5x17 - 64 pounds
Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac - 315/70/17 - 60 pounds

The Toyo is significantly heavier then the rest and the DuraTrac is quite a bit lighter then the rest. There is about a 23 pound spread their. Even if you assume you buy one of the 68 pound tires that is 15 pounds of unsprung weight per wheel that needs to be rotated by your vehicle every time it gets going and not to mention extra weight it is carrying due to the tire being more weight on all four wheels plus your spare. That is roughly 60 pounds of extra unsprung weight and another 15 on the spare to just carry around.

I think for folks that aren't hardcore crawlers or offroaders and just do the occasional trails here and there the DuraTrac looks like a winner. Although the Toyo is heavy there is no doubting its toughness as a tire offroad.

Personally I saw a set of BF Goodrich KM2's today myself and I was impressed... might go that route myself.

My 35 baja claws are 63 lbs. Km2 37 is 70 lbs. That's an added weight. But less than the 35 falken wild peaks I was going to get at 81 lbs. Just seems that km2 in a 37 at 70 lbs is a wise choice for my d30. The 35 km2 is just shy of the 37. So my question is why are ppl saying d30 is not for 37s when weight is the major factor? Some 35s are 20 lbs heavier. Just trying to hear opinions as I am no expert. Thanks for all feedback

Just like the 35" KM2's are advertised as 34.8..

Enough research shows KM2's run smaller than most other tires.

Thank you for the nice research!!!
69 lbs for bfg. So probably still at 65.8 inches like km2. My baja claw 35s (34.3) are 63 lbs. Looks like bfg is a great size / tire height for a d30 for sure!

That's really good! I am trying to get a light and great road tire that won't kill my upgraded d30. Only thing about the iroks is road is probably not as good as the ATs for long trips. Look nice though
