His orange JK is an auto and that is the one he ran 37's with the 3.73 for a while. He said it was managable.

lol shift at 2500 RPM and take 1/2 a mile to get to the speed limit.
With my 2.5 TF coil lift and 285 KM2's I was getting about 18 city and 20 highway with the SC on the fuel ECO tune. Although I went 70-80 MPH with that set up on the highway as now I go no more than 65 MPH. It is crazy how much better the MPG is going 60 MPH vs. 70 MPH.

It's going to suck. I have 35" MTs and stock 3.21s, so your "performance" will probably mirror mine. I want to regear this summer.

I've got the heavy 37" Toyos on stock 3.73 gears. Bearable with the Superchips. Without it, it would be absolutely unbearable. I get 12-14 mpg. I've got 5:13's on order. Can't wait.

I have a 4 inch Fortec lift. 37 inch nitto mud grapplers. 6 speed and stock wrangler x gears. I get 13.5 mpg in the city and maybe 15 on the highway. I do some mild wheeling and don't have a problem. On the highway I have to downshift to 4th gear to speed up. But it's not that bad. That being said I will regear at some point. But it is manageable

You're kidding right? why would you spend the money on 37's to not use them for what it's worth. Buy the 37's and wheel it. It would be like buying a Plane and never flying it! WHAT THE HELL?

if you are looking to make it pretty....spend the money on some other stuff that wont kill your axel and gas mileage etc...

Cost of 37's - $1200
Cost of 4' lift - $3000
Cost of MPG(assuming a loss of only 3MPG) - $750-900/Year MORE (Or 200-240 gallons more per year)
Total- Close to $5k, just your first year!! Not to mention replacement cost in the future for tires. You'll also need new wheels or spacers to fit the tire.
Does anyone else feel this way or am I just crazy?
So is it worth it to spend $5k just to look cool?
If you re-gear you can add $1200 to that. $6200??? Jesus... Just to look cool?
I too think you have grossly overstated the costs. I bought a set of five very lightly used 37" Xtreme MT's and had them mounted and balanced for $1,000. I have a 2" lift done right that cost ~$800 with my 1.5" wheel spacers. I did some other mods (fender trim, bumpers, etc...) myself for clearance but with my tires, gears, c-gussets, sleeves, and lift I spent ~$2,700 total and it looks good, drives great on the interstate and does very well offroad.

I had 37's on stock wheels with 3.73's for ~8,000 miles and averaged 16.5 MPG (driving with OD off). When I put my 5.13's in (and switched to wider wheels) my mileage went up to almost 18 (averaged over the last 15,000 miles). I was getting 19.5 on average stock so I don't think that's too bad considering the look and performance benefits. I spent that much for brakes and wheels on my last Bug so it doesn't sound crazy to me if someone wants to spend that and never leave the pavement.

Some people spend $750 a month on ALCOHOL and SMOKES...... Not only does your wallet pay the price but also your heart, liver, lungs etc
That doesn't make sense to me!!!! A jeep modified looks great.... As for me I use to get 540km a tank(Canada) after several grand $$$ in mods including 35" tires, bumper, superchip, 3" lift, 5.13 gears etc I'm getting and average of 475km a tank sometimes 500km a tank to me the way my JK looks and runs today is well worth the fuel loss.... PS-> don't use the Lord's name in vain.... Geeez would have worked as well. Just saying
