Default 37's on JK X?

Hi there,

This is my 1st 4wd. After seeing this forum I bought a 2010 Auto 2dr JK X (in Australia they are a SPORT). So the Jeep has Dana 30 in the front and 44 in rear.

I am now looking at 37" BFG KM2. I originally was going for 35's but the 37's are $5 more per tire...!?

Now, I have not made any modifications to the Jeep.
Can someone please help me by telling me what upgrades I will need to add 37's.

I am fully aware I need a lift (3.5" +?). I am looking at the AEV Nth Degree kit because it comes with the ProCal and a Tom Woods 1310 double cardan front drive shaft. But are there other hidden issues/problems I will face as I have the base model JK? And will I start replacing parts left right and center?

If it helps, I use the Jeep daily around town and go off road (on sand / in the bush) every few weekends.

Thanks in advanced!
eZa

You need to reinforce the D30 with c-gussets and sleeves at a minimum. I would also recommend leaving the front diff open. Flat flares wouldn't hurt either.

I forgot........what is your current gearing? I have 4.10s and a Rubi t-case so it works for me but anything less than that and it might not move.

a 3.5" lift is all you need. if you go higher, youll need to replace your driveshafts.
a 3" lift, trimed or flat fenders, lower gears, such as 5:38's, and strenghten your dana 30 to manage the weight of the tires

You may also need to get the rev. drag link, this moves the drag link to the top of the steering knuckle im doing it right now with my 4" tera flex lift

Ur looking at 3.5+ lift, re gearing, upper and lower c gussets, inner and outer sleeves, flat fenders and you may want to think about axle shafts to replace the weak stock ones. And Dont forget, drag kink flip is almost a must! I'm in the process of building my d30 to run 37's. Got diff covers, gussets and working on sleeves and axle shafts now....good luck with your build!

You can't put 5.38s in a D30. The lowest you can go is 5.13s and by the time you get there the pinion gear is so small it virtually guarantees problems. I have a JKU auto with 4.10s, a built D30 (unlocked) and a Rubi t-case. I don't wheel mud, I'm pretty much exclusively into rocks, but it works great. Just go easy on the skinny pedal.

i dont think d30s can even hold 5.38s?
i thought 5.13s were lowest could hold.
You can't put 5.38s in a D30. The lowest you can go is 5.13s
Richmond is making them. I got a reply from them this morning verifying it.

From a strength perspective, 5.38's in a D30 may be a poor choice, but apparently they are available.

Thanks for all the response!!

By the sounds of it, I will need alot of Mods to run 37's..
I was kind of hoping to blow $2500 on tyres and $3500 on Suspension (AUS Prices) and that would be it for now.

If I was to save my $5 per tyre and get 35" with the 3.5" AEV Lift, would the jeep run ok on the D30 with stock gears? (sorry, I dont know the ratio)

The 35's will suit me for now, and the lift will support the 37's when I win the lottery and add all the extra mods?

Thanks!

I am currently running 37's on a stock D30 with 3.73 gears. With Superchips tune, it is bearable. Get between 12-14 mpg. I will be gusseting C's, and adding chromoly axles and 5.13's very soon. 5.38's will be too weak for wheeling imo. I think if you won't be hitting rocks and doing light wheeling and go easy on the skinny pedal, you should be fine with the D30. You will also need to trim the pinch seems in the rear fender well.

Thanks for the info.
So you think if I do the Lift and 37's it will be fine. but I should start doing the other mods as I can afford them or I will run into issues eventually?

Is upgrading to D44 in the front a whole new axle or is it components inside the current axle?
