People doing it a lot and being safe are two different things. I suppose if you are going with a narrow tire it's OK, but I can't find a single tire manufacturer recommends a 7.5" wheel with anything much over 33" and 10.5" wide. If anyone knows of a tire that really fits (the manufacturer says it's OK) please let us know! I'd like to see the specs!

Here's mine on 315/70-17's:
And here it is on 37x12.50-17's:
They don't wear as evenly on a narrow rim (more wear on the center of the tread), but it can be done without any major problems. Usually people just run a little lower air pressure (@ 28 psi) to get a "flatter" footprint. Lower air pressures causes a slight loss of fuel mileage and a bit more tire roll when cornering. Good luck with your decision.

I had 35" cooper sst's on stack rubi wheels with 1" spacers
and the only issue was with the drivers side brake line. It did rub
in a rut and off canter almost rubbed the line off. The line
runs on the wheel side of the frame there. Peter
