For those of you who have 35's and/or some helpful insight, I wanted to get your .2 cents on something...

I have 3 very bald tires. Now that my student loans and other debt are finally paid off, I can finally tend to my JK's repairs and necessities. It's a '08 2dr automatic. Discount Tire currently has a nice deal on 35's. If I go BFG, I also get a $50 rebate, and I might be able to hopefully get Discount to give me an even nicer deal on all 4 (I will get the fifth spare after I sell my 33's)...

I have stock 3.73 gearing. The JK is also my DD. How are these 35's going to affect the JK's performance in terms of highway speeds and idle; stock steering box strength; and gas mileage? In otherwords, is it worth it?

PS: my wheels are 15" with 3.75" backspacing. Eventually I would like to go fenderless and attach some armor on the sheet metal instead. Anyone have pics or something similar as to what that may look like? (I live in AZ, so I'm not worried bout fender laws luckily)

(Just like the girls I've dated, my JK is quite expensive to maintain; but unlike those girls I've dated, it's always there for me)

From what i have read on here, you will not like 35s with an auto on 3.73 gears but its livable. The big question is will you ever go up to 37s. If you know for a fact you will not make it up to 37s gear it for 35s. Now if you will go up to 37s in the future, gear it for 37s. I hope it makes sense.

Big difference in having an automatic transmission and 3.73 gears in a 07-11 JK vs. having an automatic transmission and 3.73 gears in a 12-13 JK with the Pentastar engine (80 more horsepower than the old 3.8 liter).

I got a '12 JKUR and 3.73 gears (auto) with duratracs 315/70/R17 (34.4" tires @ 28psi) and they ride like stock. I can't notice anything different other than the wider tires wanting to grab everything. The AEV module made a huge improvement in gas mileage so I recommend getting this with the 35s.

QUESTION:

A BFG AT 295/75R16 (33.4x11.5) tire weights about 57lbs.

A BFG AT 35x12.50R15 tire weights 53lbs.

What I have on now (BFG AT 33x12.50R15) weights 51.5lbs.

Do those 2lbs seriously jeopardize your gas mileage and performance that much? And, why does the 295/75 weight 4lbs more than the 35's when it's a "smaller" tire? I mean, a 57lb tire would really effect my JK's performance, right?

I know it seems wrongs… i forget the exact answer but say take a 35" tire… now the rim size is respectively 18",17"16" and 15"

the 18 inch tire is going to weigh the most with the 15" weighing the least… something to do with the amount of plys's needed to support the weight of the vehicle with a smaller sidewall is much more than in needed to support it on a smaller rim… so even though there is less obvious tire on the 18… what it is actually made up of is a much greater amount of rubber…
