Sorry- little bit of a thread hijack.
I drive a manual with 4.56's so I would have to agree with Terminator 4.88 would probably be the minimum with an auto.

Just rolled 100000km, 95% of which have been on 35s and 3.73. I've got no issues with it.

If you have less than 4.10's, yes it's that bad...

I had stock 4.10 gears in mine for awhile and ran with OD off to avoid weakening my auto clutch packs.
Should be live able for a manual 6 speed
If you don't ever plan on going bigger 4.88's would be good plus you don't have to get a different carrier
I myself probably go 5.13's because I don't go on freeway much.
My personal Jeep I have 5.38's but not recommend unless 37's

So for mostly short trips to work (around 5-6 miles non highway) and wheeling, would 4.88 be the way to go for a 2010 auto with 35's? My 4.10s are kinda slacking for my taste. Thanks for any info guys.

35s with 3.8L/6spd and 3.21 gears and it's a daily driver like this for the last year now. Regearing is great if you have the extra $ but it's fine driving like this for however long. The other difference we've noticed is when you take off in 1st gear and the lack of 6th gear unless we're doing 90mph, which is ok. Driving it down one gears gives the same RPM on the highway so really there's no difference after 1st gear.

The plan is to buy 37s though and then regear, and most likely get 4.88s. I like to cruise on the highway and not while reving too high. 70mph at 2200 is perfect for me, anything higher and the Jeep just burns through gas. I can imagine running at 27-3000 all the time, that's around town driving if you want to race lol

Everybody will feel differently about it and you really just have to buy the tire/rim combo and drive it for a little while and see how it feels for you. 4.10s I'd think would be perfect for 35s in my opinion. I've always had 3.73s in my Chevy trucks/suvs and they were always the best compromise, the only difference was the Chevy's actually had the power to move the vehicles. Toss a V8 in your Jeep and you could run 4.10 for 37+s all day long and not get tired of it.

As you can see people have different levels of what's acceptable and what's not.

I would generally say the taller your stock gearing is, the more likely you are to want to re-gear. Perhaps even with factory 4.10's. Add more desire to re-gear if you have an auto.

Once you experience proper gearing, it's hard to stray. I'd go crazy losing a gear or two (or overdrive) on the highway.

I have 3.73's, 35's with a 6-speed manual. It is bearable for a little while. Longer if you're mostly driving around town on flat land.

Long trips are not so good. 6th gear is pretty much useless and forget it if you're driving in a hilly area.
Anytime I have to drive out to PA trying to accelerate on an incline is just non-existent. I am dropping down to 4th gear just to try and stay in the powerband.

If you're going to stay with 35's and wheel it Id say its a good idea to re-gear when you can
