Default 35 X 12.5 on Stock Rims?

I had planned to mount 35 x 12.5 KM2's on the stock 17" rims but the manager felt they should not be mounted on them. He insisted that the rim had to be a minimum of 8 1/2" wide. It seems that a number of folks have already done so from looking at the various posts. If you have done this already, what problems if any have you had. What will I loose by having the narrower rim?

No issues with stock Moab's and 35's here. Been running them on stock rims for 15k miles. You will need to add wheel spacers to avoid rubbing. I run 1.5" spidertrax.

I have the SpiderTrax in the box ready for installation if I can safely mount the tires on the stock rubicon unilimited rims.

Every tire mfg has a rim width range for every one of their tires. If you look at the BFG KM2 35/12.50/17, you will find --> 8.5" - 11" <--

Can you mount them on a narrower rim? Of course? Has anyone else done it? Certainly. Has it caused any issues? Don't know. But I haven't read of any on this site...

If that tire shop won't mount them, find one that will.

Or move to a wider rim...

Like the above post, it works fine and fits on the rear gate. Its snug, but the bumper holds a lot of the weight.

There is one advantage to haveing them mounted on factory rims. Since the rim is just slightly narrower than suggested and I have never had a problem in doing that myself is the fact that when you air down even if you air way down it holds onto the rim a lot better.

I have 35"General AT2 on the stock rims no problem with a set of wheel spacers. Dicount tire here ordered me a set and when the saw I had Spidertrax spacers they said company policy wouldnt allow them to touch my jeep. I will never go back to Discount Tire but anyway there are places that will mount them. You do have to run a little less pressure to make sure you have a full contact patch on the road since your rim is a little skinny and this will drop your mileage a touch. I run 24-25 in my AT2s to get a passed chalk test.
