Default 35" or 37"???

Hi!

I'm looking to lift my jeep unlimited sport and my current dilemma is 35" or 37" tires. I do have the upgraded axel ratio but I'm not sure if that matters. With 37s, do you need to regear? Will the stock axel be strong enough? Are there ways to beef up axel or do you recommend a rubi takeoff? What size lifts do you recommend? FYI I'm not looking to go crazy off road, I'll most likely be the follow jeep with supplies.

Any and all advice would be great.

Thank you!

Kat

35's will take you along most trails. Adding lockers would be better then going to 37's in most cases. Not sure what you mean by upgraded axle ratio but if you are running 3.73 gears you should be looking at gears with either 35's or 37's. There are gear charts showing proper ratio's for tire size.

Yes 2.5" lift and 35"s will get you most anywhere a sane person wants to go in moab, Rubicon trail, dusy ershim etc. If wanting 37"s for running around town in a DD I would think that would get old in a hurry unless you are 6'6" or taller. 4.10with 35"s are fine probably not so great with 37's

I love my JK on 37" tires and 3.5" suspension and 1.25" body lift. It's been my daily driver since spring (I store it for the salty season) and I freaking love driving it! But, I didn't just jam big rubber and it and go. I did a bunch of reading and checked off most of the boxes for recommended upgrades for 37" tires to the tune of about $13,000 invested in moving to 37" tires. But, I can drive with a coffee in one hand and a phone in the other and the Jeep flies straight down the road on it's own, it rides as bad (or good) as it did with the Mopar lift, and I still get 14 MPG. Oh, and it does things off road that blows my mind! Boom!

Is it a 3.8 or 3.6?
What actual gears do you have now that you are calling upgraded gears?
Are you planning to off-road it?
If so, explain...
rocks?
Mountain dirt roads and trails?
Getting to Camping spots?

Are you a hard off road driver and like throttle, spinning and bouncing?

Or... is it primarily for the looks and you drive it to work and back and once in a while may show off on a grass hill in your yard?

Feed that information in, and you'll start to get the straight dope. If you want 37" rubber, plan on spending some money or you may despise your choice and grow to hate the jeep for your shortcomings. Do it correctly, and it's a glorious thing.

He explains most of your questions in the OP, a sport with tow package is 3.73 and he says no hard wheeling.

I read "upgraded gears", so I have no idea if he bought it with 3.21/3.73 and has since actually upgraded to ???, or if he is saying that the jeep has the factory tow package with the optional 3.73 and there is no upgrade on gears.

Saying no hard wheeling is extremely subjective. To you, I don't likely wheel hard. To most of the people I wheel with, I am a maniac out there beating on my pile of bolts. So explaining a bit about what you want to do, or at least what you do now puts some perspective on things. And if your doing a 37" tire build to only drive to work and back and occasionally drive on a mountain trail, let us know so that we can talk you down and make you enjoy the Jeep life more.

Why the body lift? To accomplish the 37" tire with full stroke of the 28" fox shock it worked out that I needed a 3" bump stop, this leaves me at about 1/2" of chrome showing at full stuff into the compressed bump (Not slamming, but crawling and twisting into them) and without the body lift... the factory flares would be ripped immediately off of the Jeep. Doing the 1.25" body lift allowed me to keep my factory flares that I like so much and yet use the entire stroke of my shocks from bottom to top.

No body lift = flat flares = I do not like.
Body lift = stock flares = sexy = I like.
It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Hi All,

Sorry for the confusion. I have 3.73 plus rear traclok. Everything is stock.

Trails will probably mostly be dirt with the occasional rock to get to camping and shooting spots.

This is my daily driver and I drive around 60 miles to get to and from work.

I already started a pinterest board for ideas, but I wanted to get actual opinions/ advise on everything before I make the purchase.

My buddy has 3.5" metal cloak lift on 35" tires... I want mine to be better/more awesome... (not that his is bad)

Thank you!!

P.S. I'm a she

You are going to have to define "better"

I say you want 37's get them. Do a 3.5" lift like Tera or Rock Krawler. Get some sexy metal cloak fenders. 11" travel fox adjustable shocks to tune in your new suspension. It's going to be a dog with 3.73'. But if you go 4.88 all your power will be back to stock. While you have the axles shafts pulled for the re-gear you might want to do the rear shafts. Upgrading the D30 shafts would be Ideal but a waste in my eyes. Also if you can swing it put a true-track in the d30 that's all the money I would put into that time bomb. And throw a e-locker in the 44. This setup will get you anywhere as long as you have a winch for the 3 wheel or tricky trails. Enjoy your Jeep if it breaks with that you have an excuse to upgrade further. Also I recommend 4.5" min backspacing 3.5" preferred on the new wheels. 37's on a 17" wheel is the perfect sidewall ratio in my opinion.
