Default 33's with a 6 speed rubi: regearing necessary?

Hi there,

are there any owners of 6 speed rubis (4.10 stock gears) that are using 33" tires? I have an unlimited rubi with stock (32") tires and am thinking about upgrading to 33's. I thought I wouldn't need to change gears, but the other day this friend I have who's a mechanic insisted that I was going to need to change gears to something higher if I went with 33's. On the internet I've read that 33's are still within the 4.10's sweet spot.

If you have 6 speed 4.10 gear with 33 tires, did you feel any difference when you made the switch from 32 to 33? If so, do you feel you need to change to 4.56 gears? Thanks!

Your friend obviously doesn't own a JK. I have a 6 speed with 35"s and 4.10s and it's great! I'm sure 33"s would be even better. Ignore your friend, you won't regret it!

You haven't felt ANY difference accelerating/with torque?

I have 4.10s and 35's too. It wont win any races, but its very livable. The only time I really notice it are on long hills. I think you will be fine with 33's and 4.10s.

I have 33's on a 6spd Rubi with 4.10's. Any difference felt from switching from 32's is minimal. I can still use 6th gear on the highway and acceleration is just fine. I would not worry about gears with this setup. As you said...you are still within range according to this gear ratio chart.

I ran the numbers because I'm going to run 35s with my 6 speed rubi for a while before drop 4.56s in. 35" tires with 4.10s is still slightly better than stock 32" tires with a 3.73. So 33s with 4.10 should be a no brainer.

Code:
               GEAR TIRE RPM@50MPH 6TH GEAR
	      ---- ---- ------------------
Stock Rubi 4.10 32" 1808 RPM
Stock X 3.73 32" 1644 RPM
Rubi on 35s 4.10 35" 1653 RPM

With any change in wheels, and lift there is always going to be a difference. The question that I'm sure you're asking is whether or not it is something that you will feel a big NEGATIVE change or difference with. If you owned the automatic I would have an entirely different say, but with the 6-speed I'm positive that you will be plenty satisfied with your present tire idea.

Why not just put the 33's on and find out if you like it? It's not like it's going to hurt anything. I have 33's & 4.1 gears and I think it's just fine. But I have an auto, V8 and I have no mountains near me. I'm sure you'll be fine, but you should just try it and see for yourself. You can always re-gear if you don't find the 4.1's adequate

although, 4.88's are in my immediate future, the 4.10's with the 33's is just fine

I am running 33's and 3.21's. It is bearable with a six speed. Everything I have read would indicate 33's (depending on actual size) will have little to no impact on your power.
