Default 33 inch tire with stock suspension, is it possible?

since my axle ratio is already 3.73.

To make a really conservative change to convert my JK into a reasonable
performer in Mud, my plan is

keep stock suspension
cut fender flare or install new XENON high clearance fender flare
replace stock tire with 33x12.5 inch tire and R17 rim (width=9inch)

Will this upgrade cause tire rubbing problem or not?
DO I need to install a bump stop?

It is possible...but if you go wider than a 12" wide tire you will require spacers with stock wheels. Best bet is to go with a 4.6" or smaller Backspacing with a wider 33". If you go with a wider 33" you will have to trim the fenders if you off-road. I had major rubbing on the rear fenders with a 33x12.50R17 Cooper STT on a 4.5BS rim. The lift helped greatly for clearance and increased flexing off-road

I fixed with a mild 2" BB.

Before Lift

After 2" lift.

This is exactly what I plan on doing with mine early next year. Also going to add a stubby and some Xenon's.

2010 is going to to be fun jeep build year!

I have spacers on the way. Plan to use stock wheels with 305/65R17 (33x12.00) with no lift. Then save up for a 2.5" BB from there.

only concern is speed bumps or mild off roading, will it hit the fender? it looks like its gonna hit if flexed slightly in the pics above lol.

i will not disco.

Yes and mild off-roading and flexing it will hit & rub hard on the fender with NO LIFT with a 33x12.50....

Add Lift 2" BB and the 33x12.50R17 will squeeze under the rear and front stock fenders with no rubbing.

Squeeze under rear fender!

You can run 35's with Xenons and no lift.

You didn't mention the backspace on those rims, but somewhere in the 3.75-4.5 range would be good. Some are running up to a 5 BS with no issues. You won't be disconnecting, so there should not be any issues with 33's. Do you have any plans for a spacer up front to level it? That would be a good time to add a small extended bumpstop (if it is needed)

And if you decide to move up to 35's, be prepared to yank the plastic skid, hammer back the pinch seam, trim the rubi rails if you have them, and possibly chop the front bumper. (again, no lift, just xenons)

Yes, I am disco'ed in the front ...not rear....just showing you that any mild off-roading with 33x12.50 tires no lift(spacers) you will rub on the rear stock fender flares. I come very close to rubbing with my 2" BB set up on the rear fenders. If you chop or get aftermarket flares you should be okay with no lift.

Dug up a few photos.....This is is before I got my Quick Disco's....This is a shot of me with the 2" BB and NOT DISCO'ed....your issue will be in the Rear fenders.

I was nearly rubbing inside lip of the stock fender in this picture:
