I have 255/85/r16's (33.3 x 10.3) No rubbing, no spacers, no lift.
They are slim but it gives me the ride hieght needed to wheel a little harder.
And I swear NO RUBBING

Second: I was also told this at the local tire mega mart store.

Third: Based on the tire size chart on the BF Goodrich website (for mud terrains).
The X (upgrade wheels) come with 16" rims and 245/75 16 tires. This tire will fit on a rim 6.5" - 7.5" wide. The 285/75 16s will fit 7.5" - 9.0" rims. I think, but I can't remember exactly, that the rims on the X are 7" wide. Therefore the 285 could probably be squeezed on there but I would not feel safe driving that way.

If the rim is 7.5" wide then you are at the limit with the 285s. Doable for a mall cruiser but if I'm doing any offroading I don't want my rig right on the edge of what the tires can take.

Caveat: I'm not a tire expert, this is only what I found out when researching mine. Also, the 255/85s are actually bigger in diameter (.2") than the 285/75s but they are a little narrower (3 cm.).

The X stock rims are 7" wide. I wish I had gotten the 255/85s instead of the 235/85s...my tires are pretty skinny. The dealer had told me horror stories about rubbing issues/dmg.

Oh i wasnt challenging you, not really. i am just curious. I have seen alot of people use stock wheels with larger tires and claim they are fine, but the mfg. & tire shops say they are to wide for the rim?

Ok, then why do people seem to use them all the time without problems?
Do they have a huge safety fudge factor?
I want 33's, most popular sizing is 12.5 wide, but the stock rims are 7.5 as I am told, that is a pretty big difference. I just dont know what to believe....

I'm sure with some of the tire issues some of the big tire companies have had in the past they do build in a big margin for error. Personally I am inclined to stay within their suggested limits. Tires are not the kind of thing I want to find out what the failing point is at 70 mph.

The 7.5 (or 7) inch rim width isn't the same as the tire width. A 12.5" wide tire generally is made for an 8-10" wide rim (at least in the 33" variety). I'm no tire guru either (by any means), I just wanted to make sure you knew that the rim width and the tire width won't be the same.

BFG has size and spec tables for all their tires. The min rim width for 285s is 7.5 inches...stock is 7

A 285/75/16 is a 32x11.5 isnt it? I know once I stuffed a huge tire on stock rims and when it rubbed I used it for ammo to household 6 for more funds to retify the problem.

Will these fit on my upgraded X stock rims without spacers:

Hankook Dynapro MT: LT265/75R16

The website says they measure 31.9 inches and will fit a 7-8 inch rim.
