Hey guys! Looking to move up to the above size in the coming year or so. Which brand tire would you recommend? Currently running Duratracs and am happy with them. Don't really need a dedicated mud tire but have looked at Hankook DynaPro MTs. The E load range of the Duratracs is a concern. Would I be better off with D rated Hankooks or the like. Already bought new 16 inch wheels so won't be changing them

I currently have 33 Duratracs in 16s and am upgrading to Cooper Discoverer STT in 315/75/16 on Wednesday. From what I've read they seem to last for a long time and are fairly quiet on the road. Check em out

you will not regret this choice.....until you desire 37's.......the STT in this size is e rated and tough as freaking all-get-out. Not crazy noisy nor wearing poorly after 20k - measured the other day ( I daily drive 40 miles and wheel hard on Tennessee granite 2-3 times per month) and they are only down to 17/20ths on the tire tread gauge..........four door weighs 4780lbs......loaded for bear w/ spare and hilift....run 28-31psi on street and 12-20psi offroad and you'll not be stopped by anything.....they are the meats....I just wish they hadn't ceased production on the 325/80r16 as I built my entire build around that tire in that size ( i like my 16 inch rims too much as they function as a pseudo beadlock when aired down ) so come Spring when I upgrade to a larger tire size I will have to go with something other than my beloved Coopers.....I also run them on my XJ......just my .02 cents on your purchase choice PBone....

If you decide on a more aggressive tire, check the reviews on the Maxxis Bighorn. I was happy with them, and they sure beat paying the premium 300+ prices for KM2 or MTR/K or trail grappler. You can find the 315/75/16 online for around $190.


I agree. The STT was on my short list also, but by the time I finally got around to 37's, I only found 1 sitting in a warehouse. Ended up with Falkens just because of the price.

Would anybody recommend those? They come in load range D as well. I just worried Es are going to ride too rough on my light two door.

do you like your Wildpeaks? I know they are tough as heck and much tougher than they appear; supposedly stick like glue to flat rocks and gravel surfaces as well as roadwise are great rain or snow. I , unfortunately , contend with mud when I cannot avoid it and also have very very sharp roots and rocks at times made of flint that is like knives, so require more tread on the shoulder for combating this shred capable terrain and thus the falken got scratched off my possibility list; unless they are coming out with that new MT in 16" sizes, I wont get to run them. Do you ever contend with mud in those Falken Wildpeaks and are they able to handle it or are you winching out?

The only negative thing I actually have to say about them is the wimpy non-aggressive look. For my use/needs, the performance is fine on the local trails. Very little mud, though, and none of it is deep like other people talk about. If I spent time in deep mud, I would not have even looked at them.

I have the Hankook Dynapro MT's in 315/70/15 on my 2012 2 door. I have the 6 speed with 3.71 gears. They are great. Quiet but still agressive looking. I am impressed how little the bigger tires have affected performance.
