3 seater JK

I did this exact thing for the same reason. I moved one of my front seats to the back and my daughter loves it. She rides a little higher so she can see quite a bit more when were out and about. It's not a hard install you just have to work around the gas tank for one of your mount points. I used large steel brackets as reinforcement on both sides of the floor pan. I can't remember the size of the grade 8 bolts I used but they were stout. Then I had my 200lb friend climb into the seat buckle up and go ape shit to make sure the seat wasn't ever going to go anywhere.

Thanks for the tips! This might become my summer project. Of course, I am wondering about the legal implications :/

You should try googling it since I've had better luck finding threads on the JK-Forum that way then through the built in search. I know I've come across a few threads on here of guys who have successfully done it. Think they called it a jump seat? Sorry, I didn't save any of the links, bench is out and don't need the 3rd seat.

I'm also kinda curious legal wise. I mean I know you could make it safe enough but could you get in trouble or anything? I know a local guy who has a 3rd row in the back of his unlimited.

I would carfully weigh the importance of the safety of your child against the convenience of more storage space.
As an alternative, what about putting on one of those hitch mounted cargo racks when you need it? or perhaps a roof rack?
