on paper you are correct but in reality they are the same as some 35's and actually taller than Mastercraft mxt 315/70-17. Almost the height as M/T atx3p in 315/70-17 and barely any difference in the Toyo 35/12.5-17 I know it does not make sense but it is what it is. here is a comparison with my new 35x12.5-17 and my old 285's. not a lot of difference. The tires I mentioned I have had them side by side as buddies run those. They are the same size as the BFG KO2 35 as well.

That's crazy how close in size they are!

I just put 285/70/17 Terra Grapplers on stock rims on my 2012 and they DID rub. I then installed a Tera Flex leveling kit along with 1.5" wheel spacers and it does not rub. The added benefit for me is that I personally think that they look better with a little wider stance. Even if it is only 3".

The variations in 285s and 315s and 33s and 35s, even 37s and 39s make them cover the complete board. And yes you can find 285s that are very close to a small 35. But on average a 285 is closest to a large 33. BFG are always small, their race 39 measure 37???
