on paper you are correct but in reality they are the same as some 35's and actually taller than Mastercraft mxt 315/70-17. Almost the height as M/T atx3p in 315/70-17 and barely any difference in the Toyo 35/12.5-17 I know it does not make sense but it is what it is. here is a comparison with my new 35x12.5-17 and my old 285's. not a lot of difference. The tires I mentioned I have had them side by side as buddies run those. They are the same size as the BFG KO2 35 as well.

I just put 285/70/17 Terra Grapplers on stock rims on my 2012 and they DID rub. I then installed a Tera Flex leveling kit along with 1.5" wheel spacers and it does not rub.
The added benefit for me is that I personally think that they look better with a little wider stance. Even if it is only 3".
