I'm running 285/70-17 Coopers and my highway mileage dropped from 25-26 mpg down to 22-23 mpg. Since much of my daily commute is in heavy traffic with many traffic lights, I didn't see as much of a drop. I was getting about 15 to 16 mpg, and now 14 to 15 mpg.

I am running the same Cooper S/Ts. I have about 32k miles on them.
They have worked great in every condition I've head em in.
Except for wet packing snow, then the tires pack up, I think no matter what tire they will do the same, and traction is very limited.
My mileage is very similar to others 14-15 around town and as high as 17.5 on hilly highway w/ cruise set at 74 mph. 4dr auto 3.73s

I really can't believe the crazy ranges in mileage people get. I know everybody drives differently in different scenarios, but wow. I mean, I drive city and stop and go freeway driving and get about17-18. When I've done highway I get 20-21. Sometimes I wonder if I put a allterrain on the jeep i might drop down to 13-14 the way people give there numbers out there. I mean the tire size isn't a whole lot different, but I think it's more the mass of the tires people change too. Hey, what' s the worse that happens, I get stuck with some gas sucking pigs for shoes for 40,000 or so miles, right? Anybody go from sr-a to the bfg mud terrains(the rubicon style tire) in the same size and see what happens? That might a interesting thread to start?

I think the crazy ranges are due to the fact that some are running without the speedo re-calibration. Also, we don't know for the most part, who is calculating by hand and who is reading off the jeep computer. Then you throw in re-gearing or not and there's another parameter.
That being said, Auto, stock 3.73 gearing, with speedo re-cal and 285/70-17 Duratracs I am getting 13-14 city (read heavy traffic los angeles commute) and 17-18 Hwy (Hwy speeds avg 70-75) calculated both by computer and by hand.

33's , 3.73's, & Auto 14-15 MPG on average.
I think the major disparities are mostly peoples different driving styles, I tend to drive a bit faster on the highway than would be optimal for MPG & hammer it from a stop all too often.
I tend to think the people that say they are getting near 20 & over are probably lying.
I knew what I signed up for when I bought the Jeep & then put a larger tire on it.....

another disparity....
altitude. my home is at about 600 and I get 17MPG on the freeway with my 32" BFG MT's on my auto, unlimited with 3.73's.
when I go up to about 2,000 feet that quickly drops to about 15 MPG
