265/70R17 DuraTrac Tires
#1
I have no clue when it comes to tires. I really need some advice and opinions on these tires. I'm considering 265/70R17 DuraTrac Tires. I'm definitely getting duratracs but I want to get the perfect size. I'm getting a 2.5-3" lift.
With that in mind, would this tire (265/70R17) look good with (at most) a 3" lift?
If not, what would be a better tire size choice?
I also still want "good" gas milage.

Also, I'm very new to jeeps/cars in general. This being my first car, I don't know tires. DuraTrac Tires don't say, "35x12.5x17", they use different measurements. Could you tell me what size tire would be a 35??

I run this tire size with a 2.5" lift, although I am running BFG KM2s instead of Duratracs. If you go this route and really off-road, make sure you get the load range E tires, not the Cs. Also, Goodyear just released several P rated versions of this tire and although probably just fine for the street, I'd avoid them for off-road use.

That was another idea I had. I want that lift (more for looks than performance), but I also don't want to get gigantic tires that kill my MPG's.

Look at the specs list for the tire. That will give a list which will include the height and width in inches, the weight, the recommended rim width range, etc. For the duratrac, a 315/70/17 will be the 35x12.50" equivalent.
'C' tires will give a better ride. 'E' will have thicker sidewalls, are heavier, and are generally made for larger/heavier trucks. With an E, you will find yourself running very low psi onroad to have a decent ride, as compared to a C. Which you choose depends on what is available, and your specific needs. Lots of sharp rocks that shred tires, thicker sidewalls are a good thing. 99% onroad with an occasional trail, go for a C or D before an E, if the particular tire gives you a choice. (many tires will not have an option. The 265's you were looking at come in both, the 315/75/17's are D only.)

265's with a minimalist lift would look "good" but so does a 35" (315) with 3". 3" is asking for many components to make a complete kit. I currently run 265's with just 4dr coils and it stands just a touch taller than most stock jeeps. Gas mileage is stock.
