Maxxis Bighorns
Well, I guess that I disagree that the Bighorns are not a good winter tire. That is exactly what I was going to go with until I picked up a set of used Rubicon wheels and tires.
IMHO, I think the 255/85-16 size would look really good on your Jeep. Some of us like the retro look of tall skinny tires. I had them on my F250 for years and they performed great on NW adventures in the mountains. Plus they don't tend to follow cracks and grooves on the road as much as a wide tire.
Send some pics when you get them mounted........

I considered an all terrain, I have usually run all terrains on my ZJ. They are great until you get into anything deep. No matter what manufacturers say, AT's are horrible at self cleaning and heavy sticky snow will clog them up and then you will sit there and spin all 4 wheels in the middle of a frozen lake, until a Ford 4x4 with tall skinny m+s tires comes and pulls you out. Quite embarrassing.

Agree with you. No more all terrains for me.
Also i had 285/75R16 and had rubbing during full turn on original JK wheels, no lift.
I have had BFG MT 255/85R16 on my Defender, all year around, but it was too slippery on ice.
Now i have 33" with Simex extreme trekker thread on it. Also not a very good winter tire, but if i made it with these during winter 06/07 on my defender 90, i believe i will also make it during this coming winter with my JK, just driving easy.
My point is to make it year around with ony one set of tires, that´s why.

Check out this thread below. Lots of pics of folks with the tires size you're talking about.
