Default 20's on the JK

Hey guys I'm sure there is only like 300 posts about this just couldn't find one in the few minutes I was looking or one that answered my question. So here we go...

Wanting to do 20's with 33's on the JK. It has a leveling kit, this one is the wifes. So what backspaced rim and what spacer am I go needing to use to limit rub to absolute minimum?

Thank Guys... And its Sept 11 hope everyone has had their lights on. God Bless

You'll find that this forum is mostly for folks who really off-road their Jeeps--or at least want it to represent that they do. The 20" wheel is not appropriate for off-roading unless you plan on tires in the 40" range. For 33s, you'd be better off with 16 inch wheels. Tires are cheaper and more plentiful, you'll get better sidewall protection for the wheel when you off-road, and you'll have more sidewall when you air down (also to protect the wheel).

Hey, bottom line is it is your Jeep. Build it the way you want. But, unless you want to be pegged as some Hollywood-star wannabe by the majority of folks on this forum, you'll avoid 20" wheels with 33" tires.

You'll want a wheel with 4.5 backspace or less..

There is a wheels & tires section in the Newbie's FAQ's stickied to the top of this modified area. Depending on 'actual' mounted tire size, you may be ok with stock backspacing, but my suggestion would be to go with a 4.50 backspace or so for the wider stance, and it sets you up for bigger tires in the future.

I am guessing since this is the wifes rig you wont be offroad with it too much. So if thats the case go for the twenties.

That is correct, it has seen offroad twice. But this is her daily driver. My motor is laying on the shop floor and finishing a 4BT swap. And finishing building my CJ-8 so we can both enjoy it. But she really likes the 20's so I need to do a wheel with a 4.5 backspace? Yeah her jeep is all about look and not offroad practicality. New to this jeep thing, I build diesel and they don't like playing offroad. So this is our new adventure

Hell, go with about a 3in bs and at least give it a LCG look. The 20's might really look a little better on 35's though. Also given the fact that some 35's are actually 33.5's or 34's. Or get 4.5 rims and do 1.5 spidertrax spacers.

Honestly, if it's just about looks, the 35's will look better than 33's imo.

Should it be able to 35's w/o rubbing? I might have to get her convinced on some 18's. Or just get the stock 18's powerdcoated.
