Default 2014 jku small lift advice

I'm planning on installing 285/65 18's on my wife's 2014 four door Sahara. When we ordered it, I got the 3.73's just for this reason. I have chosen BDS for the lift because it is recommended by the local shop that I deal with and because it includes the octo washers to help correct caster. I know these tires will fit stock but I don't like the stuffed fender look. With that said, I am torn between the 2" spacer lift or the 3" spring lift. Both are BDS. My main concern with the 3 inch is the exhaust spacers. Also, this jeep is a pavement pounder so I don't need crazy articulation. Any input would be appreciated

Why not just go with a budget boost then? It won't ride the best with the bds coils anyways so just get a 2.5" budget boost and enjoy your ride.

The 2" BDS spacer lift is similar to the budget boost. I just like the fact that the caster can be corrected with the BDS.

If you think the octo washers aren't important, I would go with the teraflex budget boost. I just don't want to end up with any death wobble. I thought the caster being off was what cause this.

The caster being off quite a bit will cause the steering to be "flighty" and that can cause the steering to respond poorly to small bumps in the road (death wobbles).

It's not usually an issue at 2" and you'll see people avoid caster correction washers like the plague.

Adding suspension lift tilts the pinions up. Raising the pinion causes the caster to go down. Low caster causes flighty steering (wandering). Cam bolts (or drop brackets or new control arms) are used to lower the pinion and raise the caster back up, and get rid of the flightyness.

Deathwobble is different. It is generally caused by components that are worn out or bolts that are loose.

Many people with 2-2.5" lifts do not bother with caster correction. Others want it. Some don't like cam bolts (octo washers or whatever the individual company wants to call them), others are ok with them.

Don't buy a certain kit because of a set of cam bolts. Buy because of quality or reviews. You can always add parts later.

Anything over 2.5 youll prob need caster correction. Ive helped installed a couple leveling kits as is and the jeeps drove well.

I would not do more then 2" for a daily driver on those tires. Keep it simple and you will have fewer issues to address and don't install the caster correcting washers. A control arm relocation drop bracket would be a much better set up to go with that will correct caster and flatten the arms which gives you a better ride.

So from the sounds of it, the 2.5" budget boost might be the best option. It doesn't come with the caster adjustment, it comes with two sway bar end links and gives me an extra 1/2" of lift over the 2" BDS. I just want the jeep to have good road manners for my wife. Thanks

If you want to stay lower with good manners check out the metalcloak 1.5 "urban assault" kit. A bit pricier but realistically for a $30k vehicle putting quality components in it should be important. The kit will sit you at about 2-2.5 depending on your build and comes with geo brackets to adjust faster retaining factory angles and parts.
