The Driveshaft only hits when your installing your lift. After you have installed your springs, when you put your shocks on, or you set your jeep back on its own feet you will be nowhere near hitting unless you have a 4" or higher lift. Even at full flex I have over 1/2" of clearance before I hit after installing the Rusty's 3.25" lift. I have photos in my profile to prove this. However the CV joint on the driveshaft remains an issue that should be addressed not long after you do your lift. I would only give it a year before it fails. If I remember correctly the 07-11 models had the same issue.

Get exhaust spacers. Its a fairly quick install although getting the Y-pipe to slide back once you chisel off the spot weld and loosen the clamp is not easy. Just moving the exhaust out of the way of the DS is something you should do with any lift on a 2012.

Get a a new front DS. The front one will fail its just a matter of time. Especially if you opt for front discos it is an absolute must.

Also, i put my lift on yesterday and there was one thing I did not account for. I will have to buy front brake line extensions. At full droop with the disconnects undone, I would tear the factory ones apart.

So IMO get the sapcers, get a DS, and get the front brake line extensions and you should be well on your way to off road bliss.
The exhaust spacers are NOT REQUIRED if your replacing the front drive shaft. By installing a Coast 1310 front drive shaft on my Jeep with the Teraflex 2.5 coil lift I now have PLENTY of clearance as I noted above.

That being said the exhaust spacers are a much cheaper option as the drive shaft was $450. I personally didnt want to alter the exhaust on a new Jeep with a brand new first year motor incase there are any issues with warranties or otherwise.

replacing the drive shaft isn't going to effect your warranties?

Im sure ive lost the warranty for the xfer case and the front diff but im not to worried about those. But i have not lost the warranty on this brand new unproven in a Jeep engine! Im much more concerned about that. The exhaust spacers may not void any warranties either but i didnt want to risk it:-)

After getting my RK 3.5" lift installed a few months ago, I had to install a new Coast 1310 driveshaft. In this photo, you can see that I had maybe 1/4" clearance above the stock crossover at full droop. I wasn't comfortable with that little clearance, so I also installed the y-pipe.

I running the 2.5 max travel with blisteins. I used the exhaust spacers and a couple washers under the skid worked fine but the angle of the drive shaft coming out of the transfer case made me nervous. So i just ordered a drive shaft for 385 bucks shipped its well work it. I took the spacers out and the washers out no issue with clearance. Its only a matter of time before the joint fails maybe 2 years maybe 10 years im not taking the chance.

Is this full droop on a lift or on the groud during full articulation? Reason I ask is becaus I still had this much room with a factory shaft at full flex:

So replace just the front DS not the rear?

I am now confused.

SO.... If I wanted to put on a 2.5"bb I will need an exhaust spacer, or drive shaft. Anymore than 2.5" OR Longer shock, just bite the bullet and get a new drive Shaft AND a Y-pipe?

Have I got this?

Either way, someone's burnin' a paycheck.

The 3.6L Pentastar was introduced in 2011, just not in the wrangler. The only jeep to have it in 2011 was the grand cherokee, but it was also in the charger, challenger, avenger, 200, 300, journey, durango, and the minivans

I bought the exhaust spacers, but there is some sort of a squeal coming from my clutch which I hope is going to be covered by warranty before I put my lift on. after reading this thread its looking like I might as well just get a new drive shaft if the spacers are really only a temporary fix. How much approximately should the labor be to get one installed?
