Therefore, is conducted (metal to metal)heat is as big an issue as convection ( air) heat? So any air will be heated by the time it travels from snorkel (true cai) to intake. Don't get me wrong. I'd love a snorkel!!!
I'm trying to prove/disprove the rational that the air to the intake is truly cold (or less dirty) from outside as it is in the engine compartment by the time it's used. The optimal statement," by the time it's used"?

Few things to consider. First off a cai pulling air from under the hood is not really pulling cold air is it? The intake runner is also not insulated so again it is no cooler. The potential increase in airflow means nothing if your engine is never near pulling airflow capacity from the stock air box.
The best you are going to do is make the intake sound louder and pull the shroud off that protects you from some water damage.
Even in the best case scenario assuming you do a full exhaust with headers, and find a programmer that will allow you to tune as well you might see a ten percent gain after all of that. If you are really looking to improve your performance look into how to reduce your 65 percent driveline losses.

Water not a problem. I don't mud. Just camp. So, it's not the heat, but the limited airflow that's the problem? Then just remove the top of the filter box. Then why spend so much money on a CAI?
this is a great discussion. I hope it helps someone.

I just happened to enjoy the CAI/ exhaust debate. I'd love to save some money on gas. I want to get a snorkel cause it looks cool. And maybe, the stories could be true. The increased heat from the aluminum engine is a good reason for hood louvers?
