Hey everyone,

Sorry for the lengthy post but I need some help.

So I went out to my Jeep this morning to go to work, turned the key and NOTHING happened. Literally nothing. No clicks, no sounds, no lights no nothing. I just bought this new to me Jeep a few weeks ago.

I am very worried that it is more than the battery because I don't get any lights or anything. It is a dual battery system and when I turn on the LED light bar it lights up fine. That is the only thing that seems to have any power. I don't have time to look at it further as a buddy is picking me up for work. I am trying to look if I can see anything but it is pitch black outside. If anyone could weigh in on anything that would be awesome. Thanks in advance for any help.

Since it is dual-battery, does it have a boost switch? This switch connects the two batteries when one dies. You do know that it is not a good idea to leave both batteries connected at all times, don't you? You should have an isolator, and it should have a wire or a switch to manually override isolation.

Hey Mark,

It does have a switch which is always turned off. I actually was messing around with the Jeep after work and I just hit the second battery a couple times and I now have power as I turned the jeep on and off a couple times. It seems as though there is a loose connection of some sort.

Did you clean the contacts? Same thing happened to me and imagine how dumb I felt when the autozone guy said the typical "Well here's your problem buddy." Took a wire brush to them and she fired right up. I had to upgrade to heavy duty terminals after though. No issues since.

Have you had the primary battery checked to see if it's good?

Sounds like you're getting close to resolution. Regardless, if that is indeed the boost switch it should be a momentary contact. Most isolators provide for that switch. When momentarily activated, you have a minute or two where both batteries are connected together, then it times out and returns to normal isolator operation. If that is a boost switch and is not momentary contact, recommend that you replace with one. Meanwhile, don't leave that switch always on--it prevents the isolator from doing its job of keeping both batteries charged and protected.

Thank you for all the help and I ended up bringing it to an auto electronic specialist who fixed the problem. It was a short in the main power. Everything is all good and Jeep is ready for Jeeptober fest this month in Ocala!
