Generally, any lift higher than 2.5" will require a new driveshaft on a 2door. Check the FAQs thread on the modified page... lots of great info from WOL.

anything over 3" of lift will require new drive shafts. 4-5 inches of lift is a lot of lift for 35's. for 35's i would recommend 3-3.5

I have the 3.5 skyjacker. I truly am unhappy with ride quality. Better lifts out there man

welcome to jk-forum!!

regarding your question, it's like what everyone has already said, anything more than 2.5" of lift and you're gonna need new drive shafts especially being that you have a 2-door.

as far as the amount of lift you want goes, i gotta tell you that 4"-5" of lift is A LOT of lift for just 35's. at that height, you can run 37's and, to do it right, you'd should expect to pay 3 to 4 times more than what you've got budgeted. for your purposes, you should really look into getting a 2.5" budget boost and maybe a 1" body lift as that will get you clearing 35's without any trouble and can be done in the budget you have.

last but not least, listen to others on this forum who've had experience with skyjacker and stay away from their kits.

Can't he get away with even less lift (maybe none) if he puts flat fendere flares on? I suspect that would fit his budget even better.

yup, sure could - chop the factory fender flares and you can practically run 35's for free.

I have a 2008 unlimited and was going to try flat fender flares, different back spacing, cutting the body pinch in front of rear wheels with 35's. I'm hoping I can do this on stock suspension

Welcome to the forum! Get yourself a TeraFlex 2.5" coil kit and you can run those 35's.
