2 clutches in one year due to mud :(
So hit another mud hole out wheelin last weekend and got mud and water up in the clutch. I thought I learned my lesson last time earlier in the year when I depressed the clutch in a deep whole and ruined it. This time I wasn't even all that deep so I did the back and forth thing over and over to try and get out. But of course got mud in there and the clutch would no longer engage and had to get towed. This just seems so crazy to me, why get a manual tranny instead of an automatic when this is such an issue? Why is there such a large opening under the clutch for mud and water to enter? I'm guessing the opening serves an important purpose but jeeze my jeep seems so fragile because of it. Does anyone ever plug that up for four wheelin? Or does everyone just stay out of the mud (which seems to defeat the purpose of having an off road vehicle.)
Sorry just venting... and wondering what everyone else does. This is such a buzz kill, I'm not afraid of wheelin it. :(
I'm gonna flush the crap out of it with water and see if I can clean it out before going for an all out disassemble. Last time I had to replace the whole clutch (but last time I tried to drive it home by reving the crap out of it, this time I just parked it to try and salvage it).

Yeah. The drain plugs were out, but there was so much gravel and stone in the mud that it clogged the drain holes in the floor so none of it drained out. Literally had to scoop 2-3" of stone/gravel out of my floor by hand. My sub amp was in that rear storage compartment that you see filled with mud. Somehow it still works lol. Terrible. Doors or no doors, I'm done with mud holes lol. I'm fine with wet muddy trails, but no more holes for me

I assume your in 4 lo at the time. I've been stuck in some deep stuff and I just shut it off shift without clutch and restart all in about 3 seconds .I had to do that five or six times once to get out of a hole.

Some tips:
One- READ THE STICKIES
Two- get a water sprinkler and position it under the drivetrain when you get home. Leave it at full throttle for a good day- then pressure wash your driveway.
BTW: Before lockers, sawing the wheel has gotten me out of way worse than trying to back out.
