I hate to see that buddy! I put 2.5 under mine, still waiting to get a new set of tires once i get my monies worth out of the stock set. But, to get to the point, I have had no prob crawling over obsticles larger than that. It could be just a day of bad luck. I hope you got out ok.

btruby was talking about fitting 37's w/ a 2.5 lift so I assumed the hammer and bedliner reference was about trimming his flares and pinch seam. I did both but haven't sprayed bedliner since my jeep is black anyway (behind the fender liners).
Most people cut the pinch seams with a sawzall but some people just beat the snot out of them with a hammer and bend it back so it doesn't cut into the tires.

I'd say it had to do more with the surface you were wheeling over. Mulch is gonna compact and you are gonna sink. Bigger tires, you'd just sink more. One you hit the underbody, the weight was spreadout so you stopped sinking.
Don't go over loose sand, rock, dirt or mulch piles.
