IMO, 2.5" or even shorter. The lower you stay the fewer supporting mods you'll need (drive shafts, steering mods, etc.) and the more stable you'll be. It's your tires that give you ground clearance. I have a Rock Krawler 2.5" suspension and with my cut fenders I can easily fit 37's with a little more bump stopping and trimming. Here it is on 35's.

I would go with the 3.5. I have a 2.5 on my 2-door JK and I always wished that I had gone bigger on the lift and tires (I now run 33s, wish I had 35s). Just know that over time, you start to get used to the size of your lift and it starts to feel smaller and smaller the more you wheel and just drive it around town. Although you will probably have to end up putting more mods into your steering...ect. with a bigger lift, it will be worth it in the end.

i went 2.5 on my 4 door and it was perfect. Then i started toying with the idea of 37's, so i started to increase height.. added 1" spacers, so currently at 3.5". i like the look and with a few more mods I could go to 37's. however, if I would have listened to my concious I would have and should have stayed with 2.5". at 3.5" I had to add a drive shaft, break extensions, drop brackets (or control arms) and all sort of stuff.. if you plan to wheel hard and have the money to upgrade.. I wish I'd stayed at 2.5 and just upgraded elsewhere...

I started with a 2.5 due to $$$ constraints at the time. I just ordered and received a 3.5 from a manufacturer I cannot name because they are blacklisted, which comes with extended brake lines and an adjustable front track bar. In my opinion, I am willing to spend the extra money to upgrade certain things (ie front driveshaft) because if it needs to be replaced because of a lift, then there are obviously better options out there anyway. Don't see why it's no big deal to spend $400-$1000 on rims or $1000 on gears, but people balk at spending $500 on a driveshaft, which is a much more important component. I'd say go bigger now, save yourself the time, trouble and money.

do a 3.5 lift for the 2 door and just do the support mods like stated before driveshafts etc

Yes stiffer springs. I don't think it would be that big of difference but I drive a 4 door so I have no personal experience with it. I've just read a lot of people do that to net a little bit more lift. I was hoping someone that has done this would chime in and give their input.

2 1/2" lift + 4 door Rubi springs. The springs did not make a noticable difference. To me it doesn't ride any different that the original. I went from 2 dr Rubi springs to 4 dr Rubi springs. Maybe if you go from a sahara susp to Rubi there may be a difference.
