1st Post! Tires??? Go easy on me.
I bought a 2009 unlimited sahara!!! This is my first JK and I love it! My first question is about tires. I know there are many posts already but I can't find much info on big tires in the winter. I have lived in Maine my whole life and driven many cars/trucks. I know that skinny snow tires rule when the snow piles up. My question is what are people running (year round)? I would like to keep the same size tires 35x12.5 17s. My jeep currently has Pro-comp xtremes now. Looking at Goodyear mt/r and pitbulls. Any info would be great.

Been living in New England my whole life and I gotta say any all terrain tire would be fine. I'm currently looking af bfg rugged terrian t a's. They are a hiway all season but still have the treads for light wheeling.

The mtr's are so so. I could live with them if I had too.

The stock rubi BFG MT tread is awesome in snow. I have the BFG MT KM2's now and they are not good enough for heavy Maine snow... Tried to wheel them in the snow with lockers and it was useless. My friend in MTR's unlocked had better grip.

Not to disagree with the above posters BUT mud terrain tires are made of a different rubber compound that hardens up with the lower temps making traction less. Probably not the best tire for those long ME winters, especially if you plan on going up to Jackman!
A tire made for snow has Sipping, Which helps with traction on snow and ice. Mud tires do not usually have any sipping.
If you want the best of both worlds, get a Good year dura Trac it's actually a snow tire that it's excellent off road and on the tough trails, it's very popular on with the JK forum members and is usually on back order due to it's popularity. Also it's very quiet but still looks aggressive.
Good luck with the search.
