Have bfg 285/70/17. Should I go with a 17x8.5 or 17x9. The bfg chart recommends 8.5 .it sits in the middle of 7.5 to 9 width .What size should I go with . ?

i would always go with thinner, the wider you go the higher the probability of the tire slipping off the bead.
if you go with the wider wheel i would recommend beadlocks.

Yes thanks . That is what I'm thinking . Guess the middle would be better instead of min or max cause if you air down that may cause a issue as well.

I have 17x9. Wish I had gone wider. If you think you'll ever upgrade from 32 to 35 or larger, might go wider on the wheel. I was cool with 9 and a 35" tire, but at 37", I would have preferred 10+ inches. Thought I would stop at 35s, but the 37s just kept calling my name!

The wider rim will allow you to run a little bit higher street prdssure but damn- we're talking about 1/2". If you'll be more off road than on road then go with the narrower wheels. We aren't talking about a major difference.

Schlieko- the wheel and tire widths correlate, the height of the tire has nothing to do with it.

I've run 12.5's on 6" wheels and 10.5's on 10" wheels- neither resulted in death. Pick the wheel you like and go with it.

Thanks. Found the one I like but the wheel model offers different sizes so I'm able to choose.

Also the 4.75 backspacing should work fine?
