I realize this may be a matter of preference but looking for thoughts, experience and recommendations.

I'm waiting on a rubicon express 2.5 inch lift for my 2010 jku. I have also ordered 16x8 pro comp 7069s and pro comp xtreme AT's in 315/75/16.

I'm now second guessing the $300 or so I saved myself and thinking I should have gone with 17x9 and 315/70/17........I'm concerned about two things:

1: ride quality on road. I'm a newbie and first and foremost this will be my DD until I catch the wheeling bug I would think less of a sidewall would make for a better ride on road but is 16 to 17 really going to be all that different?
2. The look. I like big tires but like looking at some rim too.

You won't have any issues with control with the 16's. I'm running 35x12.5x15 on 15x8 wheels and love it. Tires look beefier. I think you'll like it. Just be sure to run somewhere between 26 and 32 psi on the road. I run about 28-30 with mine. Also, mine gets DD'd about 60 miles a day I highly doubt you will be able to tell the difference on the road between 16 vs 17 or 17 vs 18 on a jeep. Especially with mud terrains with big lugs that flex in corners lots of people say 17's for variety of tire sizes, but if you're set on 35's and don't want some between size, 15 or 16 is fine

I'm sure you're right....i'm just picky with my decisions..Would love to see some 16s running 35"s in person but it seems everyone around here is either running 17's or 15's with their 35s...hence the question.

I'm going with A/Ts to start. So that will probably help with road handling anyway.

Another question for you...I've noticed the Pro Comp Xtreme A/Ts that I've ordered are load E .....just started reading up on this the other day unfortunately. Should I be worried about the weight of a load E comb tire and rim? I ask because i've looked at other options (ie Mickey Thompson's) that are load D and while more expensive again I wondered whether I should have bit the bullet and spend a little more.

Load D & E, matter of preference on what you want to run. However, I will add - the tire you chose is an overall outstanding tire. Tread wear is amazing, balancing is a snap, performance on and off-road is impressive.....and all on an A/T. Those were the tires I ran before my current ones now.

Yeah i wouldn't be WORRIED about it. E will just have a bit stiffer sidewall, and a bit stiffer of a ride. But that's not a bad thing off road. Just will want to air down lower and probably run them a the lower end of the scale on the road (ie 26-28). The correct way to determine road psi is to do a chalk test.

For some reason, if one day you want to swtich to a big brake kit, you will need 17" rims. I have actually the same Pro Comp 7069 in 16x8 on 315/75R16 and really love them. But with all the weight added by rims, tires, suspension, bumpers.... you will see that you loose some brake power. If i had to buy again, I would probably go with 17x9 rims.

If I remember well, 17x9 is the minimum to be used with the Teraflex Big Brake Kit, due to bigger rotor, if i'm not wrong....
