15's, 16's, or 17's?

I chose 15" wheels because 1) I wanted 35x13.50 tires and the largest selection of these tires is in 15 wheels, and 2) I have always loved the appearance the short wheel base Jeep with large tires on 15" wheel.
Now as a person who has and loves 15" wheels on the JK, I typically recommend that other JK owners select a nice set of 17" wheels. The JK's large brakes can make clearance of SOME 15" wheels difficult and 15" wheels require that your tire tech get creative with your wheel weights. In addition, 15" wheels will prevent or limit your ability to install some aftermarket components (tie rods, certain flip kits, hub conversion, etc.). So unless you love the look or have a certain tire that requires 15" wheels, I recommend that you go with 17" wheels.

I went from stock 18 to 17's do to more tire choices and price of tires. I wouldnt go smaller for several reasons, 1 being that manufacturers are making less and less of these tires because ppl are choosing 17+ wheels and 2 manufacturers are making bigger and bigger brakes so 15's dont really fit unless you grind and if you ever go bigger brakes yourself youll need to change rims

i read somewhere i think on this forum that basically you want the rim half the size of the tire. they had a number of reasons listed. wish i could remember them. i have 17 with 33's plan to go to 35's

go 17's so you only buy rims once...no matter what size tire you ever think you will run. Make sure you get the rim you want/need because rubber will wear out eventually and then you get the options of running bigger
Here's some pics for your reference
Stock no lift
16" w 35" Tires (3.5RK lift)
17" w 37" Tires (3.5RK lift, but lots of rubbing on fenders and seams)
17" w 37" Tires (3.5RK lift, flat fenders and trimmed seams=no rub)
