Default 15" Regrets

I have a 2013 2D Sport that has 17" factory wheels with 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT II. I would like to go 35". I like The looks of a the 35x12.50x15" tires & wheels, but I know there are limited wheels because of caliper clearance problems. Does anyone that runs this set up have any regrets? Thanks!

Search for the discount tire thread on this topic. Good testing on this specific subject.

I have 15" with 35s. The wheel is very very close to a brake caliber but no issues yet. Only issue I've heard of is if a rock gets stuck it'll tear up the heat/dust shield and possibly damage the caliber

No regrets here. If you're not going above a 35" tire, go for it, tires are so much cheaper. If you're going 37+, go with a larger wheel as options are very limited. The Discount Tire thread is in the sponsor section and has a good list of what fits.

If you want to stick with 35's or smaller, 15" wheels are fantastic. The tires are cheap and the wheels are cheaper. I ran procomp 8069 alloys and loved the look.

I would have kept them had I not gotten the itch for 37's.

Here's another way of looking at it: One of the guys we wheel with just did this to his 17" wheel

A rock got caught in there and punched a hole right through the rim. I don't think there is enough room between the caliper and my 15" wheels to get something that size in there that would do as much damage. In other words, staying with a larger rim size does not necessarily prevent this from happening either.

15's are not a problem- even OVER 35's. The issue is finding good street friendly tires over 35" for 15's. The Interco m16 is an option but there aren't as many options.

I had 15's and had no regrets. The time came to replace tires and used tires for my 17's from CL were cheaper than any new tires (15 or 17).

Did that and snapped the caliper clean off leaving on bolt in with the head sheared, but that's why they sell easy outs.
