Default 13.50" wide 37s on 4.5 backspace question

Can I run a 37x13.50 on a 4.5" backspace 10 inch wide rim -12 offset. The Jeep goes in to the shop in 2 weeks for a bunch of work and I am ordering the tires to be shipped there - I want to go with the 37x13.5 - will I have any problems, anyone have an experience with similar stats.

Thanks

You'll want wheel spacers to keep those wide of tires off of the frame. 4.5" is fine for most applications but it seems you need more space when you move to 37's, particularly the wider ones.

Would 1.5" suffice or bigger?

Thanks - I was really trying to stay away from wheel spacers….now I have a decision to make by the 29th…

Dirtman's posts lead to a 3.5" backspace, so 1" would (in therory) fix it.

You can try it out, but certainly be prepared mentally and so forth.

You need 3.5" back spacing or add washers to the steering stop to prevent the tire from hitting the control arms if you are going to stay with 4.5" back spacing

If you don't want spacers, and the tires are already paid for and on the way, you still have options:

- New rims with the proper backspacing.
- Add washers to the steer stops and go slow any time you turn and compress the suspension. (turning up/down into driveways or turning while crossing dips in the road, etc)
- Ignore the rub.

Same situation with my new 37's and old 4.5 BS rims. Couldn't find any 16" rims with less than a 4" bs, so ended up with a set of spidertrax and --> no more rubbing.

I have 37 toyos and 4.5 bs rims. I had to add as mentioned some washers on the steer stops. Can't remember exactly but I think two or three did the trip. I have no rubbing on the arms at full stuff.

man sometimes i hate my stretched 2 doors steering radius, i cant imagine a 4 doors let alone adding steering spacers...some trails id have to do like a 9 point turn there if i had a 4 door. personally id get new rims or spacers, essentially its the same thing in my opinion.

Thanks guys! Great info - question on the steering stops, how does that change turing capability - is it drastic or something I prob wouldn't even notice…any feedback appreciated.
