My wife's mini cooper had a hole in the tire, went to firestone they said it was unsafe to patch it and that it couldn't be done. I'd need to buy a new tire, that was 300 bucks.
I went to discount tire, not only did they patch it, not only did they not even charge me for the patch, but it lasted the life of the tire.
Moral of the story, always get a 2nd opinion, people are apt to believe anything, someone may have told that guy once they are unsafe, he believed it and so now he tells everyone that.
Has he done research on spacers to see how safe or unsafe they are? Nope! But the people who made them have, and thats why they are on the market.

Been running spacers made locally out of 6061 T6. since 13K at 45K now with no issues
Opted for 1in, i believe, (gotta check for ya) to keep it as tight as possible. I suggest you measure up the spacing you need and consider having them machined to your spec this will help keep your wheel bearing life up there.

I've been running 1.5" Spidertrax for over 20k now and not one issue. Followed the supplied instructions, used the loctite, set to the right torque settings. No problems. Very happy with them. As noted above always get more than one opinion.
