Default 1" or 2" body lift

I just read a good article in 4 Wheel Drive magazine on a Performance Accessories 2" body lift installed on a X Unlimited. I'm wondering if anyone here has gone this route as I see alot of 1" lifts here. Any pros and cons besides the gap between the body and bumpers. They did show it with the "gap guards". Also, is there any concerns with my Rubicon being an automatic and installing a body lift.

being an automatic makes it a little easier to add a body lift.

Most people don't like the look of 2 inches but it's no most people's Jeep it's yours. There's a few pictures on the forum of a guys Jeep with a 2 inch lift and I don't think it looks bad at all.

If you have a 6 speed DON'T INSTALL THE 2" BODY LIFT

Don't listen to the vendor, and believe me; your shifter will suck

If you are looking for 2" of lift then just do a bb or sping lift. Witha 2" bl your bumpers will need to be raised to look right and that big of a gap between the frame and body looks pretty goofy. IMO

Well Sonny Jim, I've gone from the 1" to the 2" back to the 1".

The 2" kit was fine, no real problems with the install (mine is a 6 speed), but I never liked the various gaps- particularly at the rear bumper. The kit comes with brackets to raise the rear bumper, but then you can easily see the frame 'hanging out' underneath it...

I took mine off and returned it. Btw, I had the 2' on for about a month or so, and okwd dot com took the thing back with only a $15 restocking fee... If you buy it from them you can test the waters and return it if you don't like it.

Also, with careful reading you will notice that the gap guards are not part of the kit: "The newly-created space between the frame and body can be covered with a set of Performance Accessories Gap Guards."

Here is a pic with the 2" installed (vs a stock Jeep)

Here it is a month or so later with the 1" (in addtion to my suspension lift, of course).

Talking One more pic

Ty, Hoss.

Here is another shot of the Jeep with the 2" installed. Other than the gaps, there were no problems with it- a very nice kit. It just wasn't for me, appearance-wise.

I thought about making my own gap guards, but then just decided to go back to the 1". Of course part of my motivation was knowing I could get my money back on the 2" and not have to worry about selling my 1" at a serious discount.

I have the 2" PA BL on my 2dr. It was an easy install. While the this does leave a two inch gap between the tub and the actually bumpers it was not too unsightly to me. I have since put a winch on my front bumper which covers the gap perfectly. In the rear, I raised the bumper with the one inch DIY write up on the forum, which was easy and reduces the rear seam quite a bit.

I did not opt for the PA seam covers, since I do mostly light trails with lots of mud. Having this gap, makes it much easier to hose off the undercarriage and look for any problems.

Two inch BL gave me little bit more height I was looking for without sacrificing a great of money.
