09 Sahara U build report
I live in NYC, been driving a wrangler since 98. As I approach the end of my 36 month warranty, I knew it was time to build. My intent was to build up a truck to have more fun with, but keep it docile enough to be functional around NYC. So here's what I did, front to back.
Superwinch epi9s - so far so good. It's not a Warn.
Off Road Engineering axle C gussets - low cost, good mod.
Rock Slide Engineering sliders - Great.
Adjustable tie tod - have to admit, i bent the stock tie.
Rockslide Engineering's Ridge bumper, full. - Great. Got the piaa 520 yellows in it.
Control arm skids - I forget the make, but you know, it's a good idea.
Goodyear MT/R 35's on black Cragar Soft 8s. - Great. at 10PSI they rock, no slip.
AEV 3.5" premium - PHENOMENAL. wheel hard and best "driving on road" lift period.
Teraflex sway disconnects - So far so good.
AEV 3rd brake light
AEV rear bumper/tire carrier - I blew out the grease zerk in the tire post. but it's a smart design and it makes me want to go buy a shovel.
IPF 55w backup, w/3way switch. You need it with a 35" tire in the rear view.
Interior
Tuffy glove, bed trap door, and security console. The glove box and bed trap door went in fine, the security console is a bitch. Taking the 4wheel drive knob off was a motherfucker, and getting the stock console out is pain. The manual SUCKS. it's got exploded diagrams and lots of suggestions and does miss some steps (they need to hire a good tech writer, it's not a job for grandpa). It's a well made product. You will need an external speaker for your cb (a cobra 25 barely/doesn't really fits). The 12v power outlet is interior to the tuffy box, and you can choose your tap (constant or acc).
I'm happy with all the parts/products I chose.
I considered full gussets and sleeves on the front axle, but it's only a 30.
I considerd full skid plating, but it's just not worth it for the wheelin I do.
I considered going to 5.13 gears, not yet. Maybe.
I considered a super chips, but the procal in the aev lift is fine for now.
That's pretty much it. Some parts made the cut, some didn't. I'm pretty happy with everything. If I had it to do all over again, I'd find a Tuffy expert installer and let him deal with that center console bs. It's a quality product, but it was more time than the lift.
