'07 for '11 3.8 swap
Hey all, went wheelin and buddy's 3.8 hydrolocked. Found an '11 engine and he's worried about the computer swap.
It is a 6speed and will come with engine-tranny together.
I think if he keeps his '07 ECU he shouldn't have any issues. Is there anything changed in the '11 that may screw up things like crank position sensors or coil trigger pickup sensor etc. ?
Thanks
-guess what, he's getting a snorkel!

If he keeps the 07 ecu and engine harness he should be fine. The main difference is that in 11 the ecu went digital communication and has very little analog cabin inputs. Like cruise control is now digital. This change was made for the cruise and radio controls in the steering wheel. They only had so many connectors available through the wheel so they computerized the signal and put a little board in the wheel to multplex all the signals through fewer wires.
Now instead of needing a one shared ground wire and a positive wire for every switch, all they need is a neg, a pos, and a comm wire to ecu. This is what makes the new jeep digital.
The engine and sensors themselves didnt change to my knowledge.

If he hydrolocked- the bottom end rotating assembly could have one or more rods bent along with a few valves.
With all of the engine conversions being performed, there is no shortage of the worthless 3.8 engines around for cheap-cheaper than fixing a bad engine. Hell i have a 2010 5.3 ls motor and 6 speed auto sitting on floor infront of my jeep now. Just saving up for the install conversion kit from Motech or JSS. I will have a 45000 mile 3.8 with auto trans for sale soon as well.
