Kinda right. The MM winches and many others are made in the same Chinese plant. Different companies order their winches from them with different specs which accounts for the minor differences.

Don't get me wrong, I've also seen Warn winches fail (although rarely). However, I know if I have a problem I have a source for parts.

x2, I believe only Warn & Ramsey are made in the US. I've had a couple Mile markers fail on me, my warn 9k never did, and so far my ramsey hasn't. I have/had faith that if the warn or ramsey had something go wrong, i could easily get a repair part... my first mile marker I got a new motor for and then when it failed again, no luck finding it, but they were very good and gave me a newer model for much cheaper than retail. It's not fun when a winch fails on you & they always do when you need them the most.

Not sure if that's a 100% accurate... I think Warn uses components that are made in China - there was another thread about this elsewhere. Between "designed in the US", "built in the US", "made in china" and "assembled in china", it's hard to tell anymore what's made where or what percentage of parts that are used come from other countries. But you're right - Warn and Ramsey are both extremely reliable products.

I've beat the crap out of my Smitty for three seasons now. Aside from one solenoid failure that was taken care of even though the winch was out of warranty, no other problems. Can't beat it for the money and I'd recommend them to anyone.
