Default Yakima 42" roof rack tracks on Unlimited

Here's a little information on my 42" Yakima track kit (8001616) install on my 2010 Unlimited Sahara.

1) First I measured 6" from the back top seam for the rear end of track. (see first picture) Temporarily hold track with tape or double stick tape.

2) Centering the tracks on the ridges, marked 3 holes to the rear and 3 to the front of the track leaving the middle 2 holes alone.

3) Follow Yakima's instructions for drilling and sealing holes being careful not to drill too deep and damage speakers or other parts.

As you can see from the 3rd and 4th pictures, the screws and cap nuts will miss the top seams. Any farther forward will not work. You will have to lift the front of the top to get to the cap nut over the speaker.

Once again, this was on a 2010 JK Unlimited Sahara. Be sure to verify all measurements and hole locations for your particular application and be sure to follow Yakima's instructions.

Enjoy!

What're you carrying up there? Are those landing pads? How high up is the crossbar? Looks good.

You can't carry anything too heavy. I wouldn't put much more than a 70# canoe. It's not the rack that's limited but the top. I haul boards, ladders, gutters, plastic pipe, anything that is too long to fit inside and not too heavy to lift up there.

Picture 2 on my previous post shows one of the landing pads. The cross-bar towers drop into the landing pads and lock down. The landing pads have plastic covers to keep dirt out when the cross-bars or off. Towers can stay attached to the cross-bars.

Here is a picture of the rack installed. There is also a link to installation instructions. Only thing, the rack rails for an Unlimited are 42" and not 52".

I've been very pleased with the racks. Only downside is the MPG's did suffer (expected).
