If you decide to install a cooler put a fan with it. When traveling slow you're still going to experience high temp's with the trans. I'd also recommend installing a AeroForce gauage so you can monitor the trans and other vitals.

Aren't people finding the aux cooler works fine without an extra fan?

Without the use of my fan at low speed travel my trans exceeds 200*based on a warm day say 90* or so, winter days its not always necessary to use the fan. It doesn't matter if I'm in 4H or 4L. The cost and the ease of installing the fan is about the same as the cooler. I consider it cheap insurance. I have mine wired through a toggle switch which I mounted in the cab.

That would probably work ok if you're cooler were mounted flush with the condenser, but if its mounted a inch or two in front of it it doesn't. Remember air like water it will take the path of least Resistance.

The OEM fan has two speeds. Even on low it pulls a lot of air. On high it'll suck a neck tie into the grill!
On mine, turning on the AC doesn't automatically kick the fan on. I assume it does get factored into the computer's algorithm for determining when the fan comes on.
I mounted my cooler close to the oem radiator (condensor actually) so that I get maximum cooling from the oem fan. I would think an aftermarket fan would only help, but is likely overkill. Just one man's opinion.

You are correct...but if you start sticking unnecessary large items in front of the radiator you are asking for that to become a problem. Ive run my fanless B&M Cooler for over 3years now without my tranny temp EVER going over 205..(and the 205 reading was when I climbed Mt. Washington last summer. Other than that I'm at 165-175 all the time wheeling or DD.
