x2... How thick is it? Could I cut it with a hacksaw?

The rail is fairly thick. I used a cut off wheel on my grinder. I suppose you could use a hack saw, just might take some time.

As for the coating, I got some 3M undercoating in a can at the Walmart. Make sure you make a straight cut, and the plastic end cap will snap back in place, making it look factory.

Nice job! I have the Rub Rails and thought about doing this too...I need to check if there is enough room to cut..

Hey, I have a question for Mike..

Mike, how did you secure the end caps back on? Did you drill a hole to put back in the plastic retainer or did you use something else (epoxy). The end caps fit back in pretty loose.

For those who asked questions on how hard it is to cut, a sawsall went right though it....I would say either a grinder with a cutting wheel or sawsall would be best. A hacksaw would probably work, but it would take a while!

Took the rails off and used a sawall on mine . And then some black silcone for the caps . Still ok after 2+ years.

its easy to do.. and to put the caps back on... drill a new hole and put the plug back in.... in the event of a broken plug on removal in the initial steps... they are like $2 for 15 at pepboys...
